Fasting: Day 1

“And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:16-18)

Intentions: That we may be able to fast without giving into the temptation to satisfy our ego, but keep it a secret from others, that our renunciation of food and acclaim may purify us in order that we would allow God to work in our lives more and more.

Action: Seek to renounce anything that is hindering your walk with God. Be careful especially of your heart-intentions, that you would seek to do God’s will in all things out of pure love, and never for the satisfaction of your own ego. Thank God for the opportunity of fasting, which enables us to draw closer to Him.
