Superman Returns!

  • The ‘Saviour’ Returns – Brian Singer, the director of ‘Superman Returns’, talks about Superman as Christ. Listen to the line Singer chose to keep from the 1978 movie, where Superman is told, “even though you’ve been raised as a human being, you’re not one of them. They can be a great people, Kal-El. They wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all—their capacity for good—I have sent them you, my only son.” Light of the world, the only son sent to the Earth – sounds familiar? I was looking forward to this movie, and now it sounds even better. 😉

  1. Thats an interesting insight. Just out of curiosity, where would Lois Lane fit in the Bible? And Jesus having a relationship with a woman? 😀

  2. Yay, a comment. Thanks for posting 😉

I can answer that question, even without being silly! – No Davinci Code here, sorry. He he.

Lois would be the Church, since image of the Church as the bride and Christ as the bridegroom is used throughout the Bible. Matthew 25 is about the parable of the bridegroom and the wedding feast, and in Mark 2:19 Jesus identifies himself as the bridegroom. Ephesians 5:25-28 compares the Church to a bride, and Paul speaking to the Church in Corinth says “I feel a divine jealousy for you, for I betrothed you to Christ to present you as a pure bride to her one husband.” (II Corinthians 11:2).

As I pointed out earlier in another post, the relationship between God and His people are most often likened to a relationship between a man and a woman. This is why Heaven is so good (like the best marriage) while Hell is so bad (like the worst divorce).

He he, so yah, that’s the theological answer for you. 🙂
