Pope Benedict XVI is working to renew the much-abused Sacred Liturgy of the Mass. His upcoming Apostolic Exhortation will encourage a greater use of Latin (being a Sacred language, and the official language of the Universal Church) and promote Gregorian chant and four-part polyphonic choral music (composed by the likes of Palestrina) for the Sacred Liturgy.
I love the Gregorian chant and four-part choral music, which we sing in the choir. I love Latin (as you know), which to me has a beautiful and sacred ring to it. So this is music to my ears ;-). I’m glad this is happening, since drum beats in the Sacred Liturgy just do not help to lift up the mind to holy and higher things. God bless Pope Benedict XVI!
