Need for Confession

It’s interesting that a Protestant website for posting confessions has attracted a lot of people. “…the accounts of anguish and guilt that have poured into the Web site have stunned [the pastor] and affirmed his belief in the need for confession.” Yup. We’re designed that way – to not keep our guilt and shame inside, but to admit it and express our sorrow and obtain forgiveness and understanding. That’s why one must confess both to God and to our fellow man, and that’s why Jesus said to the Apostles, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (John 20:22-23), and that is why Catholics go through priests to receive reconciliation and absolution.
